Do not get eggs here, they are now using something that I don’t know what it is, but I can guarantee it is not eggs. It’s got a plastic rubbery texture to it. I don’t think I will be going back. Their eggs were the best before. What happened to this place? Used to be one of our favorite BF spots on a Sunday morning. Quality has gone down. Got served coffee that was already cold. The ambiance is great actually when sitting outside. Reason why I’m leaving a 2 star and not one.
Very good choice for our family to stop at. Breakfast served all day. I enjoyed an amazing omlette that was truly stuffed with meat, definitely get your money's worth. Also had a hit fudge Sunday which was good as well.
Great big pancakes! Delicious coffee! And they offer outdoor seating which is an added plus
The Nook Macs are where it's at. Loved this diner on the downtown mall. Warm, welcoming, with delicious food. Recommended.
Always a good breakfast choice for downtown activities! Home made corned beef hash. Yum.
Friendly service, comfortable atmosphere, great food.
The people are great, friendly - even the atmosphere is cool with lots of photos of Charlottesville through the years. The food is just okay. Nothing over the top or stellar, just simple diner-style foods. Had the country fried steak and the wife had crab cake eggs benedict. Neither were remarkable, but nothing was really bad. I can't put my finger on it, but it just needs "something." Maybe a menu refresh or something? I dunno... Its a good enough place, there's just something missing that could make it 5 stars.
So welcoming, authentically retro decor. More than a dinner. Thoughtful, delicious and well-represented food in generous portions. The dining counter lady took tim to have a nice conversation with us. We went back there three consecutive days during our short visit to Charlotteville.
Food was good and the staff was so cheerful and nice
Great food, reasonable prices!
The server was very kind and helpful. The food was terrible. The kids' mac and cheese was of the box mix variety. This is really odd and very frustrating because Nook has house-made mac and cheese (my husband got an order of house mac and cheese), but when we ordered THREE kids' mac and cheeses, it was the powdered cheese mix Kraft kind. The menu didn't indicate this in any way. Second, every single stem of all three orders of broccoli had black spots on them. We sent them back and they replaced them with a new batch, but they also had black spots over every stem. We won't be going back to this restaurant.
Great tradional southern food at very reasonable prices. There is good reason why there's usually a wait.
Food was decent. I liked the cheeseburger but the grilled chicken was dry.
Great little place! It's like stepping back in time to the 40's or 50's but actually looked like it was recently remodeled. The food and service were both very good. Not a cheap place for breakfast but still worth it and very convenient being right in the middle of the pedestrian mall.
Ordered sausage gravy biscuits were hard on the bottom but the eggs and hash browns were great.
This place is great for breakfast, sandwiches, or mac and cheeses.
The Nook is a remaining gem of fast vanishing old style diner restaurants in America. The food is great, the staff is welcoming, the atmosphere is comfortable. This place has been open since the fifties and I wish there were more places like this around still.
Excellent service. Great classic breakfast options.
We actually substituted the normal waffle for the Maple Pecan waffle and it was DELICIOUS! I definitely would recommended this to any friend or stranger!
Delicious food and excellent customer service! Unique drinks. Nice little fenced-in outdoor area. Unfortunately, some crazy homeless lady walked into the outdoor area where my boyfriend and I were eating (only ones there) and tried to start something with us. We ignored her, and our server kicked her out with no issues.
The bartender woman was very welcoming and pleasant. Went there on New Year's Day for breakfast when we found many of the other restaurants were closed. Thank god you were opened!Food was good and came out in a timely manner.
First time we've been here. Great service and food. Will go back.
Service by attendants was horribleThey refused to offer me place at some tablr and offered corner third class table. Horrible and irresponsible
Stopped for dinner on Tuesday, a sunny day in March with a temp in the 60s. We were hoping to sit outside, but the restaurant wasn't staffed to provide full service to the patio. One employee said that we were welcome to place a take out order and sit out there, which is exactly what we did. She did a great job of insuring we had everything we needed (napkins, utensils, ketchup, etc.). We ordered a hamburger and a roast beef sandwich, both with fries. Crinkle cut fries were standard frozen fries and both sandwiches were just okay. I'd stop again, but would definitely try breakfast as it's served all day. Should have taken the hint from a couple of regulars that were enjoying breakfast for dinner when I went in to place the order.
Please bring back the WONDERFUL "No Bull Burger" veggie burger!!!
Great spot for breakfast. Everything is a out $2 more than it should be or it would be 5 stars. $8 for a mimosa is steep.
Cozy environment and delicious food. "The Nook" is a perfect name for this spot. Some of the tables feel a little small.
The atmosphere has that old school diner vibe complete with old tile floors, barstools at the counter and old booth seating. Waiter was helpful and friendly, nothing exceptional. Restaurant, including the bathroom, were clean, also not exceptional. The fish and chips were a lil over cooked but the Mac and cheese bowl (the one with crab meat) was so good it made me forget that my food had been over-fried. Food seemed fairly priced for portions and taste. The big draw here, IMO, is actually the surrounding area- right outside is a really cool walking area with street performers and a few blocks of attractions. I'll definitely be back when we're in the area!!
Had a Nutella mocha (I think it's a seasonal item?) and it was delicious. Love the local art on the wall. Overall interior is spacious but cozy, very inviting.
The food was great and that's why they got 3 stars. However the service was awful. We sat outside (and although they have no control over flies there were a ton), our server was put out to wait on us, he never refilled drinks, didn't offer extra napkins, and when boxes to take home our food were requested he nastily tossed them on the table. This was my first visit to Charlottesville, but I will not be returning.
Perfect diner with 1950's diner choices. Add to that a few items popular today. All done really well. Basics done great. I loved my ice tea and grilled chase sandwich.
Had lunch. Wide selection. Incredible service. Great tasting food too! Taste like homemade.
My family and I love this place. My parents were in town visiting and we are new to this area. We were walking through the downtown mall and decided to have dinner at this adorable oldies-style "diner". All of us were impressed with the food. Some of us had breakfast, some had dinner. All sandwiches were great. The decor is adorable and shows the old-school downtown area. The workers there are all very sweet and extremely friendly. The service was fast. We are very happy and will be going back for sure.
The fried pickles and homemade ranch were a great appetizer. I had the Eggs Chesapeake entree - the eggs and crab cake were divine, but my home fried potatoes were hard, in fact too crunchy to eat. I cant say that it ruined my experience, but it is the reason for 4 stars. The staff were incredibly kind though; the manager even dug through their basement to find me a to-go menu and sticker for my scrapbook. I would definitely go back, I would just probably ask for a different side.
The service and food were awesome! My daughter's grilled cheese was, "The best ever" and my chili was filling and delicious. We even got an orange float for the ride home. We will definitely be back.
A quaint diner located in the heart of downtown. The menu and ambiance bring a flood of memories back as there are featured historical photos everywhere. The service was excellent and the food was fresh and very tasty. This is a hidden gem among all of the restaurants along the street...I highly recommend making a stop. My BLT sandwich was loaded with crisp bacon and fresh veggies...So good...I will definitely dine here again.
Loved this gem! While The Nook seems basic from the outside, it's so much more than a simple basic dinner. The vibe is 50s luncheonette, with tiled floors, wood booths, and metal ceiling fans. The menu choices were also a bit throwback, with the most amazing mac and cheese we've had in a while. We chose this over the other spots on this packed street, and we are so glad we did!
Coffee could be better and service is a little slow, but food options are good portions and classic diner style breakfast. Best options are the omelets (which you can customize if you ask), the oatmeal, and the waffle with peaches and raspberry glaze on top. Fresh squeezed orange juice is also great, and servers are all very nice. Classic spot on the Downtown Mall, perfect for weekend breakfast with a group.
I like the retro vibe of the restaurant. The pictures on the walls are of events at the University of Virginia. The food price are reasonable and the food is good. A great go to for comfort foods. The Mac and Cheese and Chili are very tasty.
The staff was super friendly and the food was pretty good. Fairly priced as well.We were checked on often and they resolved a missed order quickly.
Wide diverse menu with excellent taste. However, the milkshakes are too attractive and tasty. They will destroy any willpower you have for trying to lose weight.
Owner and employees are fast and efficient. Prices are good and bathrooms were clean even though the restaurant was very busy. Great food.
Friendly service. A little pricey. My breakfast was pretty good but my wife loved the mac n cheese.
Yummy milkshakes! I asked for it to-go and the owner was able to accommodate me. She was super friendly and sweet!
If you are near the Charlottesville mall, breakfast or lunch at the Nook! Great and diverse menu in rustic surroundings.
I think the Nook stands strong as the best comfort food on the mall, where many serve comfort all day long.
We eat here often. This is one of our go-to restaurants on the downtown mall. They serve classic American food. Everything is yummy from breakfast to dinner entrees. They also serve alcohol and wine. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. Service has always been good as well.
Great chicken and waffles.
The first thing you see when you walk in is the rug that say "The Nook, Est. 1951". If you've been in business since 1951, you're doing something right. I was a little under the weather having enjoyed myself too much the night before. Boy did their signature Patty Melt hit the spot. Two beef patties on rye with lots of grilled onions and the perfect amount of cheese. Well done! Even better, the owner or the manager came bye to check on whether I liked it as he said "It's our signature dish, want to make sure it is done right." It is sir. 5 Stars all the way. Great job!
